Trash Backwards began with two of our founders and their children discovering an enor- mous amount of plastic washing up daily onto the shores of their Puget Sound island. They collected, inventoried, and crafted dramatic art pieces of the plastics they recovered to teach the world the sad truth they had uncovered: Ocean plastics are coming from us, our homes, and in particular, our consumptive lifestyles.

Trash Backwards is our solution to the global crisis of manufacturers out-producing our ability to dispose of the everyday things in our lives. We aim to move citizens’ awareness and actions beyond recycling to the more sustainable Rs: Rethinking, Reusing, Reducing, and even Refusing to buy single use plastics.

Our curated database powers a mobile app, website, and social media-fueled online com- munity taking action in real life! We aggregate our original content of movie shorts, tutorials, and feature articles along with thousands of curated resources into an easy-to-use database of reuse solutions while we take a thin slice of revenue to fund our growth. Our media plat- form connects citizens and businesses who are going beyond recycling into upcycling and reuse, an exploding segment within the $290B LOHAS marketplace.
